Pentecost and What it means to us.

Spiritual Revival – Pentecost – Shavuot, feast of Weeks

Pentecost Acts 2:1-4  ----    Spirit falling on the Apostles Acts 11:15-16

This was a new beginning in understanding the truth of the Word.

Just as the first his disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was glorified did they realise the things that had been written about him and why these things had been done to him. But we so far off in the distance have the scriptures to read about this time when the Holy Spirit fell on the people, such as:

John 14:16

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you

 John 14:26

"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things,

 John 15:26

"When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father--the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father--he will testify about me.

 John 16:7

Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.

 Acts 1:4

"Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.

 Acts 2:33

Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear.

 1 Corinthians 2:10

These are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.

 1 John 2:20

But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.

1 John 2:27

As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit--just as it has taught you, remain in him.

Romans 8:4 Tells us the Spirit leads: but the question is does He.

The are we changed by the out pouring of His Holy Spirit that we celebrate on the day of Pentecost or is it just another day of the year?

Are we who are, temples of the Holy Spirit, illuminating the Holy Spirit in our lives and in to the lives of the people we meet?

Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17

Is He the Light for our souls for this life readying us for the life to come.

As we do not train children to be children we train children to be future adults. God is not just training us to be citizens of this world but for the world to come.

The Holy Spirit convicts towards repentance and brings us closer to a knowledge of God and what He requires of us.

 When the Holy Spirit fell on them at that moment in time, they went from being men and women of the world to men and women of the Great King. In a moment in time;

Their demeanor changed

Their countenance changed

Their attitude changed

Their lives were no longer theirs.

They had gathered to remember the giving of the Torah and when they had received the Ten Commandments and now God was giving them the power to understand all the teachings given down through Moses.

They came to understand the things given through the Law [Teachings] was given not as rules and regulations, but as an understanding of where they had gone wrong and the need for salvation. Such things as;

All are like sheep and gone astray………………………….Isaiah 53:6

Feed my sheep            - …………   ……………………...   Ezekiel 34:15

Love thy neighbour –   ……………………………………   .Leviticus 19:18

Be Holy as I am Holy     ………  ………………………….   Leviticus 20:7

We came in to this world with nothing -  ………………..    Ecclesiastes 5:15

Love God with all of our being  - ………………………….   Exodus 20:8

Rid yourselves of everything that stops you coming to me – Jeremiah 4:4

God's word is there to guide and correct.

Your word is a lamp unto my feet  -  ………………………Psalm 119:105

We often talk about the gifts of the Spirit. But the longer I spent on the Mission field, the more the Lord impressed on me, it is not so much the gifts that change lives but the fruit.

Galatians 5:22-26 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Let us not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another.

Pentecost is a restoring of understanding the true perspective of God, if He were a man, how would He act. God is speaking; this is how I would live
and did when He walked the earth. John 1:1

The Spirit came:

To make us wise

What God requires of us.

What God expects of us.

To equip us with His words and His actions.

The Fruits of the Holy Spirit, such as

 Love not ………… hate

Joy not ………….. Bitterness

Peace ……………… not afraid

Patience…………… .not ………  Impatience

Kindness …………... not ……..   greed

Goodness………….. not …….  anger

Faithfulness ………. not …..  unfaithfulness

Gentleness …………not ……. Heavy-handedness

Self Control …………not …… Urgency

Are we Born Again in the Spirit?

If there is no change are we born again in the Spirit or do we still walk by works.

Our lives should reflect into society the wonders of God and then may be Society would then be reflected in the church and not the other way around.

God is love, surely we should be reflecting that love. This a poem I came across recently and I believe it is as powerful today as when it was first written.

Could we with ink the ocean fill

Were every blade of grass a quill

Were the whole world of parchment made

And every man a scribe by trade

To write the love of God above

Would drain the ocean dry

Nor would the scroll contain the whole,

Though stretched from sky to sky.

The Holy Spirit came to remind us we are all, those who have been called by His name both Jew and Gentile, united under one name one baptism under one sacrifice under one teaching under one offering. Both Jew and Gentile as we were once far off were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace, and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross. Based on Ephesians 2:11-18
