Walking with the Holy Spirit

We are back from our trip south and a great time it was. We stayed with friends up in the hills that are above the clouds that came rolling through. The visit to the church went even better, there had been a lot of prayer that went into this visit and talk and I felt the Lord was right there with me. The talk was based on what I sent out last week, that is the Holy Spirit, the power from on high sent by God to be on the earth once Yeshua had departed. [Luke 24:49]

The Holy Spirit is a gift from the Lord to be with us throughout our lives as we go through the lows or the highs we encounter. This is the power we need as we walk and talk as people of God and it is the help we need to stay in His will. You might say as I have been told, just try harder. Good advice and some people may be able to overcome in their own strength but there are many who can't. But even if you are one of those people who think they can handle everything that comes their way, one day you will strike something you cannot handle. The day this happens and God knows it will, when that situation comes you will feel helpless and you will need help.

When that day comes it will come upon you suddenly. When it does and it will it could be a situation that can pull people down to a breaking point and then anything could happen. God knows these times will come hence the reason the Holy Spirit was sent.

From the beginning of time we have needed direction. Would Adam and Eve have sinned if God had been there with them all the time? [Genesis 3:8] The Israelites sinned many times during their travels through the desert; even the presence of Moses could not control them. [Exodus 32:4] Joshua kept things under control for the people had a common enemy as they took control of the land of Israel. However once he had died the people once more went their own way. [Judges 2:11]

Next God raised a series of Judges to lead the people to keep them out of trouble and protect them from their enemies. But every time the Judge died the people once more sinned. [See book of Judges] Then the people wanted a King, [1 Samuel 8:6] the Lord warned them what would happen if they lived under an earthly King [1 Samuel 8:10-18] but they took no notice. In this request God told Samuel it was not Samuel they were rejecting but God Himself. [1 Samuel 8:7] This is a warning we should all take note of.

Anything we place ahead of God becomes more important than God Himself. [Matthew 6:32-33] The people placed an earthly king before God and then suffered through their kings mistakes. Of course we have to obey our earthly rulers [Colossians 3:22] as long as there laws do not require us to break God’s rules. However the older we get the more we can see that we need help in this life. [Acts 4:19]

God said He would send one in the form of Moses. [Deuteronomy 18:15] This one would be Immanuel, God with us. [Isaiah 9:6] He would heal the broken hearted and bind up wounds and make the blind to see and the lame to walk. [Isaiah 61:1] He would come out of the line of Jesse [Isaiah 11:1] and be born in Bethlehem. [Micah 5:2] He would come as a suffering servant and after about three years He would be cut off from this world. [Daniel 9:26]

We know that all of these prophecies were fulfilled in Yeshua. But taking the form of man [Philippians 2:7] it was obvious He could not stay forever and would have to return to where He came from. [John 14:28] After telling the people how life should be, He made it clear He would not leave us as orphans and He would send someone to be with us and to guide us. [John 14:18]

God sent a power upon the disciples so strong that when people walked in their shadow they were healed. [Acts 5:15] Paul prayed over handkerchiefs, which were then taken to the people and the people receiving them were healed. This is the same power that restored the sight of people in the time of Yeshua and has been healing people down through the ages. Peoples sight being restored and people making miraculous recoveries from cancer and many other incurable diseases. This is the same power that opened a broken door for me in Bethlehem. The lock was broken and refused to open. I prayed over the door and went to get tools to help me open it. When I returned the door was open. This is the same power that hovered over the earth at the beginning of time, so mighty that this power could create a universe [Genesis 1:1] and the same power which opened a door that was broken.

Yeshua promised He would not leave us as orphans and as always He kept that promise. In the beginning the people had God to direct their paths. Then for a short time they had Yeshua teaching them to walk the path of righteousness as directed by God’s word. Now we have the Holy Spirit to direct us in all things. In this we can rejoice that the promise Yeshua gave when He left, “I will be with you all ways” [Matthew 28:19] is being fulfilled in the power of the Holy Spirit.

This is the One God sent to continue His work on earth. Judges cannot help us and neither can kings or any other earthly authority but only God. So when Yeshua was taken home to prepare a place for us the Holy Spirit came to direct our paths in all things and at all times [John 14:26] if we would only let Him. He is the Power from High as promised by Yeshua and what greater power can we have or need in our lives than the Power of God? God knows all [1 John 3:20] and gives all and what greater gift could we receive then the gift of the Holy Spirit, who helps us to stay on the narrow path, not turning to the left or the right [Deuteronomy 28:14] and entering in through the narrow gate to glory. [Matthew 7:13-14]  Amen.

Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews; this man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. “Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ “The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” John 3:1-8
