The Final Biblical Feasts
And the trumpet will sound and the Lord will appear and will gather His elect from one end of the earth to the other. [Matthew 24:30-31] Yes the Feast of Trumpets has passed for another year but what lies ahead? Yom Kippur is just ten days away from this feast so we are now in what is called the ten days of Awe. In this time the Jewish people, who know what is coming, search themselves to see if they are living their lives for them to be worthy to have their names written in the Book of Life. [Psalm 56:8] We might say: “Well I know my name is written in the Book of Life, because I have accepted Yeshua as my Lord and Saviour”. [Revelation 3:5] This may be true but the question to we who have accepted Yeshua as our Lord, is not whether our names are written in this Book but whether we are living our lives in a way we are worthy to have our names written in The Book of Life. [Colossians 1:10] The greeting at this time is: “Gmar Chatimah Tovah,” May your name be written in the Book of Life for another year. It is reminder of what we have been called to do, to serve God with all of our Hearts with all of our minds and all of our strength. [Matthew 22:36-38] This is not about salvation it is about serving God. [Philippians 2:12]
This is the time of year that represents the events of the last days, it is the time that many talk about but pay little attention to. The first three Feasts, Passover, Unleavened Bread and First fruits all confirmed the Lord’s first coming and the final three will confirm who He is on His return.
After the Feast of Trumpets comes the Day of Atonement or Day of Judgment the very day that it is taught in the Jewish world, the Books will be opened and the lives of the people will be examined. Should we also ask ourselves have we applied scripture to our lives? Have we lived as commanded to reflect the sacrifice and what God has done for us? The Day of Atonement is the Holiest Day in the Biblical Jewish calendar as commanded by God. [Leviticus 23:26-32] To us we may say Passover is, however this day is the day that combines all that has gone before it. This is the day that the scapegoat sacrifice allowed the High Priest to enter the Holy of Holies. This day signals the end with only one event to follow and that is the Feast of Tabernacles.
Yeshua our scapegoat, [Read Leviticus 16] Ben Abba, Son of the Heavenly Father died in the place of Ben Abba, Barabbas in English, a son of an earthly father. The guilty one was set free and the Sinless one died in his place, [Luke 23:17-18] just as the Sinless one, Yeshua also died in our place. For this we have a reason to celebrate. But like the Israelites from the time of Joshua until the time of Nehemiah the Feast of Tabernacles had not been celebrated for some eight hundred years. [Nehemiah 8:17] The Church did away with this feast some 1500 years ago in the time of Constantine and the Church fathers, putting laws in place to prevent the people celebrating the Feasts of the Lord including Tabernacles.
At this time the people are commanded to live in booths, small huts made out of simple materials and made so they could see the stars through the roof. [Leviticus 23:42] The reasons for this are very simple so by looking up they could see the glory of God and all magnificent splendor of His creation, all the time reminding them who He is and who we are in Him. [Nehemiah 8:16] If they were rich and lived in a Mansion or just a poor slave all are equal in the eyes of the Lord. [Galatians 3:28] They were to eat in these booths and to sleep in the booths, they were to live in humility before the God Almighty who gives and who takes away. [Job 1:21] The One who gave us our salvation and will one day return to take His bride to the Father’s House - The Holy of Holies. The very place where the curtain was torn from top to bottom so we, along with our High Priest can enter.
We like the Israelites have long forgotten what this Feast is all about and what happened at this Feast of Tabernacles. It was at this time the High Priest took water from the Pool of Siloam and poured it upon the steps of the Temple in a symbolic gesture that it would return to where it had come from. It is said that if people had not seen the Feast of Tabernacles they had not lived. Each day the music and dance levels increased and then on the last and greatest day of the Feast the High Priest poured water and wine for all to see and it was at this time Yeshua stepped forward and made this statement:
“If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’”
If we want to see a reason to celebrate this feast, then Yeshua just gave it to us. In this statement He declared Himself, God. Yes God on earth as the scriptures tell us would happen and announced it did happen and now here was Yeshua confirming exactly who He was. There is only one who gives life there is only one who can save and there is only one who has the right to make these claims. Yeshua, [Jesus] The Word made flesh and who walks among us, the One who made the blind to see and the lame to walk. The One who raised the dead and the One who died for you and me.
On the eighth day of the Feast we have the dance of the Groom and the celebrations begin of reading the Torah end and begin on the same day. Showing that not only the Word never ends but also the Author and finisher of our Salvation never ends. I have been to the Western Wall at this time and what a joy it is to see the people dancing with the Word of God held high. When the Torah Scroll is passed from person to person and they dance in the joy of the Lord.
It all started with Passover, The Lord God forgave us our sins through the sacrifice of the Lamb of God who took away the sins of the world - Salvation given. Next came the Feasts of Unleavened Bread, bread without yeast to show us how to live within our salvation, followed by the Feast of First Fruits showing us that we are to present ourselves as the spotless first fruits shown by our Saviour Yeshua. Next came Pentecost [Shavuot] Feast of Weeks when the Holy Spirit was poured out upon the people so we could understand all that had gone on before - Salvation understood. And finally the trumpet call for the ingathering followed by The Day of Judgment when we are to stand before the Lord our God and give account of our lives, then Tabernacles, the great celebration when we receive our salvation.
The End? Definitely not, this is just the beginning of a wondrous and glorious future promised to those who are in Messiah Yeshua. [Christ Jesus] This is a celebration that we are told will continue year after year with all the nations going up to Jerusalem to celebrate it. [Zechariah 14:16]
There will be an ingathering and there will be a judgment and yes there will be a celebration for those whose names are written in the Book of Life. Is yours, is mine?
Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. 12And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things, which were written in the books, according to their deeds.
Revelation 21:1-7 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. And I saw the Holy City, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.” And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.” Then He said to me, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost. “He who overcomes will inherit these things, and I will be his God and they will be My children.
