Walk in the ways of the Lord

As I start to write this message the world is once more celebrating the dead, yes it is the night of All Hallows again when we expect those knocks on the door to be met by the most horrible of masks and costumes. I don't know about you but they give me nightmares. Now you might ask how old are you? I can tell you this not too old to find this night absolutely against the Word of God. [Leviticus 19:31] There is only one I will worship and glorify and that is the Lord Himself. [Exodus 20:1-2] People might say it’s harmless but this does not change the fact it is against scripture. [Psalm 51:4] Others say it is a time to teach and give out tracks and this could be an ideal time. But again you have to look at these horrible things that represent everything other than the things of God. [Habakkuk 1:13]

God is quite the opposite. He is wonderful and beautiful as shown through Yeshua. [Psalm 27:4] Yeshua was not of the appearance that would attract people to Him. [Isaiah 53:2] However He had something about Him that when he spoke people followed. [Mark 2:14] When He spoke evil fled at the command of His voice. [Mark 1:34] When He spoke people were healed and lives changed and He was totally against anything evil. [Matthew 6:13]

There are many things in this world that pull people down and make them afraid and to doubt themselves. [2 Corinthians 10:8] When people are in this situation the last thing they need to be is faced with an image that could take them further into their hole. [Ecclesiastes 2:20] This I can assure you is very true as I have been in that hole and to open the door to something that confirmed how I felt did not help. I needed to be lifted up, I needed to feel loved and I needed to see something that lifted my spirit not pull me down. [1 Peter 5:6]

What brought me out of those feelings? Well meeting my Penny helped but there were still problems within my spirit and these went by one action, it was something I did three years later and that was accepting Yeshua as my Lord and saviour, [Acts 4:12] from that day on things started to come right. [Luke 4:18] My relationship with people went from good to great and I started to be more relaxed. The love that I have experienced over the years as I have come to know my Lord has never ceased but increased as time goes on.

I can say with experience, the more we have the Love of the Lord the more the love within us can grow if we let it. [1 John 4:7] It is the love of the Lord that I have applied to everything I have done and will do in the future.  Those who know me personally will know this does not always work but that is because I, like everyone else, am human. But that is where there the good news of Yeshua comes in. We slip and fall but He is always there to pick us up if we put our trust in Him. [Proverbs 3:5]

Come to me all who are heavy laden. [Matthew 11:28] That is what Penny and I did, we gave our lives over to Him and the rest as they say, is history. What an exciting trip it has been, learning and experiencing the wonder of the Lord the God of the Bible, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. [Exodus 3:16] The Creator of the universe [Isaiah 44:24] took time out to save us from ourselves. His love is beyond our understanding, [Deuteronomy 29:29] why would Yeshua come to earth to go through what He did to gain our salvation? Why should He suffer so much for you and me? The reason is stated clearly in scripture, which is summed up in one word, love, [John 3:16] love that passes all understanding. [Ephesians 3:19] It is a love that has set us free from the things of the world, [1 John 4:4] the things that would drag us back to our pagan roots, roots that did not know about the God of Salvation. [Leviticus 18:21] If you want to know what this looks like look no further than what is happening to our brothers and sisters in the Lord. The ones dying by the thousands in North Korea, Iran, Iraq and China and many more places. When the love of God is absent so is justice for all. [Jeremiah 5:28]

This is the God who brought me out of the darkness [Isaiah 29:18] and into a light that shines my path and the path of all those who accept the saving grace of God. [Psalm 119:105] As Christians we can be our own worse enemy by following the things that the word of God clearly states we should not. We should not be involved in Halloween as there are many reasons that God stated from the beginning of time, “Have no other God beside me.”  [Exodus 20:3-6] We need to keep our focus on Him and Him alone. Why can’t we just follow His Word and His direction and His love and rejoice in His love? [Psalm 70:4]

Understanding the power and majesty of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, [Luke 9:43] is not easy but neither is it difficult. Opening the Word and reading is a good start but it has been said only ten percent of Christians open their Bibles every day. We watch the news every day or a program on TV and we never miss a meal or forget to breathe. A bit extreme, well His Word is our breath, it is life itself and it is life eternal, He is our every breath. [Genesis 2:7]

We do so many things and call it good because it makes us happy. What better happiness can we have than following the Word of God? The Word that is perfect, [Psalm 119:138] it is clean and it is truth, [John 17:17] it is all things and all we need to be directed to what we should become. [2 Timothy 3:16]

The Word covers our tears and it covers our fears, it is there for all truth and for all times. [1 Peter 1:24-25] All evil flees at His name so why does it not flee from us if we carry that name? The use of His name is more powerful than we can understand. [Philippians 2:11] Like the day a friend told of how his car was sliding towards the steep cliff edge and he was likely to drop into the river below, he cried out the name of Jesus and his car came to a sudden stop on the edge of cliff.

Call on Him not evil, I have been told I must respect pagan beliefs; never will I do this no matter what it costs. Jesus said take up your cross and follow me [Matthew 16:24] He clearly did not say we have to follow the things of the world. Evil is evil and good is good and one cannot be exchanged for the other. [Isaiah 5:20] It was following the world that got me in trouble, it is following Yeshua that got me out of it. Following Yeshua leads to the Father [John 14:6] and it is only at the Father’s house where our rooms are being prepared for us. [John 14:2] The curtain to the entrance has been opened and way is open for us to enter. [Matthew 27:51] Let us keep our eyes on Yeshua our teacher, [Mark 10:35] our Saviour [2 Peter 1:1] and our King [Mark 15:26] and the narrow path that leads to the torn curtain and salvation.  [Matthew 7:13]

The earth is the LORD’S, and all it contains, the world, and those who dwell in it. For He has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers. Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? And who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood and has not sworn deceitfully. He shall receive a blessing from the LORD and righteousness from the God of his salvation. Psalm 24:1-5
