Rise up and fly
On the Wings of an Eagle
Today we went for a walk to the world-renowned Hamilton Gardens. A beautiful spot here in our city where thousands of tourists come each year to enjoy their beauty. There is a small lake in the grounds with a path that goes around its edge. Part way around we came upon three swan plants absolutely covered in Monarch Butterfly caterpillars. The caterpillars were very busy eating up the very plant that was giving them life. The Swan plant is the only plant these caterpillars will eat and in doing so they grow ready for the next stage.
This reminds me of the Word of God, no other book will do what this one will do. [Psalm 119:50] As we read the Word we absorb the words of this wonderful Book called the Bible which holds God’s truth, [Ephesians 6:14] a truth that we all require to grow closer to the Lord, closer to that point where we can change from what we were to what we could or should be. [Isaiah 55:8] This can take time but unless we absorb the word [Psalm 119:105] we may struggle to reach our full potential.
As with the chrysalis of the butterfly it has to devour the plant to grow ready for the next stage. Then one day it shuts down from eating and is transformed into a new creature. Out of all of that confusion of what is going on in a chrysalis a butterfly is born again into a whole new world. Once it could only walk but now it can fly on the breeze high above the trees. It has entered into a whole new world of freedom and taken on a whole new appearance, an appearance that has people standing in awe of its beauty.
It is time for us to come out of the chrysalis and to soar with the Lord. [Isaiah 40:31] It is time to know His love, [Deuteronomy 7:9] a love that lifts us from out of the depths [1 Thessalonians 1:3] and into a whole new world. It is time to let the love of the Lord take all our hurts and pains [Luke 4:18] and know he made the blind to see [Matthew 15:31] as He has opened the eyes of the spiritually blind. [John 9:25] He made the lame to walk [Luke 7:22] as he has the spiritually lame [Galatians 5:25] and like the butterfly He has given us spiritual wings for us to be able to see a whole new world. [John 3:3] He has made the deaf to hear, [Mark 7:35] now our ears have been opened to His word and His commands and filled us with the joy of the Lord. [Psalm 98:1-6]
Other books may speak about God but they do not hold the food that we require to change into what God wants us to be. [Hebrews 5:13-14] God has a plan that started when He created the Heavens and the Earth and will end with His return. [Hebrews 19:11-16] His plan is beyond our understanding and so is our transformation within the Lord. We don't fully understand the natural growth of our bodies as we grow. [Job 5:8-9] It is the same with our Spiritual growth, there are things we don’t understand one moment then after a period of reading the Word something just awakens. [Deuteronomy 29:29] It's like the Lord has flicked a switch that opens a door of understanding, a metamorphosis takes place within our spirit, we are changed and the Holy Spirit now dwells within us [2 Timothy 1:14] we are reborn into His world. [John 1:13]
Once we are set free from the constraints of our previous life - you know those things that keep pulling us down through one reason or another, like regrets of the ‘if only’. The unforgiveness that has filled our hearts [] and pulled us down never allowing a freedom of spirit to go forward can now be gone. The lacking of love in our lives whether it is from within ourselves or from someone else that keeps us as caterpillars, never reaching the heights the Lord wants us to reach.
With the Lord there is no limit. [Revelation 11:17] As we take the new step in the power of the Holy Spirit there is a learning time [John 14:26] and then we can burst forth from a time of confusion just as a chrysalis comes forth as a butterfly to experience a whole new world. The chrysalis also takes on a whole new beauty like the beauty [Isaiah 61:3] we can experience when we take on the mind of Messiah. [1 Corinthians 2:16] We can experience the beauty and the love God gives into our lives. [Psalm 50:2] We can learn to forgive, as He forgives [Micah 7:18] and know that the joy of the Lord is our strength. [Psalm 81:8]
We were born into this world to serve Him, to Know Him and to love Him. Reading His word we learn who He is. [Hosea 6:3] Reading His word we know what it is to serve Him. [Joshua 24:13] And in the life we can have in Him we come to know how to love Him [1 John 5:2] and then we can soar with Him in the heavenlies like a Butterfly soars on the breeze.
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power. Though youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary. Isaiah 40:28-31
