Journey to Pentecost
The first week after Passover is nearly completed and we are on the way to the celebration of the coming of the Holy Spirit. Passover is now being celebrated throughout New Zealand, in homes in churches in halls. It is a great time to remember the death of our Lord and all the meanings behind the crucifixion. Such as I have mentioned before, He is our First Fruits from the dead. [1 Corinthians 15:20] Now we have a model to work to, we no longer have to stumble in the dark. He is our example, Yeshua who was made sin in our place. [2 Corinthians 5:21] Now we no longer have to guess as to what sin is or how it can be instilled within us. [1 Corinthians 5:8] But there is still the problem of fully understanding what it is to walk within our salvation.
Like a prisoner first released from jail after a long period inside, they struggle to come to terms with this new freedom. Just as we do when we are set free in the knowledge that we are loved and cared for after maybe years of pain and struggle. Yeshua said He would never leave us as orphans [John 14:18] but He would send a helper. [John 15:26] This helper came to help us in many areas such as: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control and many more. [Galatians 5:22-23] These are all things that we all struggle with in the natural but with God’s help they can be achieved. [Romans 7:20]
These fruits, obviously of the Lord, well out weigh the things of the world such as: immorality, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger and disputes. [Galatians 5:19-20] This is what Yeshua came to set us free from and as we count down the weeks to Pentecost [Leviticus 23:16] we should once more think of the sacrifice, what it means to the world and to ourselves and what is it leading us to. [John 3:16] We are not an island but part of a much bigger picture. We need to still our hearts and know He is God [Psalm 46:10] and He is in control of all things [Colossians 1:17] if we let Him.
There is a peace in knowing the things of God that can only come about by the infilling of the Holy Spirit. [John 3:6] This is because the Holy Spirit reveals the knowledge we require to know the Lord with all our heart, mind and soul. [Deuteronomy 6:5] It is the Holy Spirit that burns up all the rubbish we have acquired from the weeds of the world that have tried to take over our lives. [Psalm 97:3] We know the Spirit brings new life as it did at the beginning. [Genesis 2:7] We know the Holy Spirit is gentle as a dove and will never force His will upon us. [Proverbs 3:34] And out of Him who takes the Spirit of the Lord will flow rivers of living water [John 7:38] and from that water a new life of release and renewal.
Even in a desert as you walk along a small damp riverbed, there are small plants with their roots in the moisture within the soil where the river has run when the rains come. There are many different plants to be found, standing green and proud in the warm sunlight. Are we not like this when we place our feet in the springs of living water and allow the Spirit of God to flow up through our whole body? [Jude 1:21-22] As we drink of the Spirit and feel His warmth of love we have a peace that can only come when we drink of Him. [John 4:14]
Being surrended to the Lord is like the tree mentioned in Jeremiah 17:8, that stands near the life giving stream sending out its roots to soak up the moisture when the drought comes upon the earth. We need never suffer from drought because the river of life that flows out from the Lord never dries up. We need never fear that this water will dry up because it will last forever, bringing life to all who call on the name of the Lord. [Revelation 7:17]
If we are dry and parched then we need look no further than the Word of God because the Bible is the source of all life. [Psalm 119:107] It teaches, it rebukes, it is love and understanding it is everlasting and it is truth. [2 Timothy 4:2] Truth in all matters, from the smallest problem to the greatest, it answers all questions and stands unchallenged among the books of the biggest library. [Psalm 119:105] It remains the best seller of all the books ever printed and will remain so until the Lord returns and beyond.
The fruit of the Spirit as per the gifts of the Spirit will last for all time, from the time they were first revealed to the people on the Temple Mount, when the thousands upon thousands gathered as commanded by the Lord [Deuteronomy 16:16] and saw and heard what was going on and three thousand responded to the message. [Acts 2:41] The same message is there to all those who were to be far off and that is you and me, [Acts 2:39] are we also ready to respond? Without the Holy Spirit in the work we do, we are but a club. Enter the Holy Spirit and the lights go on and the power of God will flow like a river of living water through the lives of the people. With this will come the knowledge of what is required to know the Lord and to serve Him in a way we never thought possible.
The time has come to once more wait for the power from on High [Luke 24:49] to come and to touch the people as He did on the Temple Mount so many years ago. It is now time to wait upon the Lord and to be filled once more with this power so we become what is stated in 1 Corinthians 6:19, temples of the Holy Spirit. Then we can live with power, speak with power and love with power. [Acts 9:17] Where we can walk as children of the Living God [John 1:12] knowing no matter what the future may bring we know we will be with the Lord and if we endure hardship with Him we will reign with Him. [2 Timothy 2:12] The Holy Spirit has been sent to give us life, peace, a new heart, to comfort all and to teach us all things. [John 15:26] As we count down the time to Pentecost let us prepare our hearts to be renewed once more so that they are open for the Lord to change them, from what they are to what He wants them to be.
“Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. “I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances. Ezekiel 26:26-27
