God's Word concerning Israel
In 1059 a drawing was done showing Jerusalem as the centre of the world, a drawing that has had many copies in many forms over the years. The city of the Great King, the city where our Lord was crucified and rose to be with the Father from where He will one day return. It is the city that most Christian visitors never want to leave. It is the city that the evil one does not want to have the Jewish people in control as proven down through the ages and why? Because it is the city of the great King, [Psalm 48:2] King Yeshua. [Matthew 5:35]
The first recorded attempt to move the focus away from this city was in the time of Jeroboam, shortly after the death of Solomon. This was when Jeroboam moved the feast times and the location of the feasts to Dan, so the people would not focus on the Lord and on Jerusalem. [1 Kings 12:25-33] Sadly this is something that continues to this day throughout the world.
Then as the time of the Messiah’s coming was drawing nearer Antiochus Epiphanes took control of the city and tried to turn the people to Hellenism. This was another attempt to stop the people from celebrating the One True God in Jerusalem. This failed because the Lord is in control of History even though some people may think otherwise. Scripture tells us the Messiah would come from the line of David [Jeremiah 33:15] so if this line was destroyed then the Messiah could not come to fulfill scripture. In other words stop the Messiah coming to the people. Later on with what went on in the church, it was an attempt to stop the people coming to the Messiah. Then we had the revivals of the 19th and 20th centuries but they have now faded into history and the people are once more turning to the ways of the world. [James 1:8] This is just another means of stopping the people from coming to the Lord.
We all agree the Lord will one day return and the proof of this is what is happening around us. [Matthew 24:7] We might say, yes we see rumours of wars, floods and drought but are these, the true sign of what is in the next step of God’s plan? [Mark 13:28] If we look to the world we just might miss what God is doing in Israel. [Jeremiah 24:6] As I have mentioned there have been many attempts to remove the Jewish people from Jerusalem and Israel. The 1900’s saw the people returned and were called Palestinians and then the Arabs came for the work created by the Jewish return.
Then the UN created a division in the land that kept the Jewish people from Jerusalem. But true to His Word the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob has fulfilled His Word before our very eyes. [Ezekiel 37:9] First He would bring the people back to a deserted land. Then they would restore the land [Isaiah 49:8] and build up the ancient towns [Isaiah 61:4] and finally there would be a spiritual awakening. [Jeremiah 31:31] Today we have all of these despite the attacks, wars and the anti-Semitism that is going on in the world today.
I will bring your children from the four winds. [Zechariah 2:6] I will send fishers to gather you home. [Jeremiah 16:16] I will build up the land [Isaiah 51:3] and I will make a new covenant with you. [Jeremiah 31:33] Such promises after all that had been done to the Jewish people throughout history. Which of course is one more thing that shows in itself they must have a special place in God’s plan for all of mankind. [1 Kings 8:41-51]
The Lord has told us clearly to look after His people [Isaiah 40:1] and that we are to honour them for what they have done for us. [Romans 15:27] We are to become one new man with both Jew and Gentile walking hand in hand into the presence of the Lord. [Ephesians 2:15] These are the promises that are laid out in scripture, the very scripture we trust with the truth of our salvation as we read page after page. We cannot skip over the things we don’t like, as we need the bad parts [Matthew 7:21-23] to remind us of just how good the good parts are. [John 3:16-17] We need the warnings to understand the word repentance to bring us closer to the Father. So when the Word tells us God will bring His people back into the land we have to pay attention because what He says He will do. God’s promises are true in every way [Psalm 71:22] and if they are not then we have a problem. If God can change His mind on all the promises He has laid out to the Jewish people maybe He can change His mind about us.
With everything that is going on in the world it is easy to forget the past and as someone once said, repeat it and in this case it is to doubt God’s Word. [2 John 1:3] Jerusalem and our faith is under attack but He that keeps Israel is also the One who keeps you and me. [Psalm 121:4] The same One and only God who sacrificed Yeshua on the cross, our kinsman redeemer, is returning to take up His throne and He will come on a mighty white horse to fulfill His other role, Kinsman Avenger. [Revelation 19:11] Two thousand years ago Yeshua the Kinsman Redeemer came to give salvation to the world. With all that is going on it is a sure indication the Lord will return to carry out His second role.
All this started with the tree of life [Genesis 2:9] and will end with the tree of life. [Revelation 22:14] Adam and Eve missed out and were expelled from the garden because of disobedience. We have to be very careful we don’t do the same by going against God’s commands as Adam and Eve did. [Revelation 22:18-19]
God restored the Jewish people because of His Holy Name [Ezekiel 36:24] and He has restored us to His Kingdom for the very same reason. He said He would do it and has through the Blood of the Lamb and one day in the future He will return to take up His throne and for His Bride, those who have confessed Yeshua as Lord. [Revelation 19:7] His Bride made up of both Jewish and Gentile Believers and in that we can praise His Holy Name. [Romans 10:12]
And I saw between the throne (with the four living creatures) and the
elders a Lamb standing, as if slain, having seven horns and seven eyes,
which are the seven Spirits of God, sent out into all the earth. And He
came and took the book out of the right hand of Him who sat on the
throne. When He had taken the book, the four living creatures and the
twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one holding a
harp and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the
saints. And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are You to take the
book and to break its seals; for You were slain, and purchased for
God with Your blood men from every tribe and tongue and people and
nation. “You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God;
and they will reign upon the earth.” Revelation 5:6-10
