The Lord and the Mount of Olives
The Lord and the Mount of Olives
As I prepare to write this week’s message, I am receiving a picture I would like to share with you. The picture I am seeing is of Jerusalem and I am standing on the Mount of Olives. Yes the place just outside the city of the Great King [Matthew 5:35] where you can look down on the Temple Mount and recall all the history that has occurred in this place. This is the place where it is said Abraham offered Isaac [Genesis 22] as a sacrifice to the Lord. It is the city that King David took from the Jebusites [2 Samuel 5:6-7] and where the First and Second Temples stood and where they were destroyed. It is the city that Yeshua viewed [Luke 19:41] and where He taught. [Luke 21:37] Where He died and rose again and then forty days later ascended from this place to be with the Father. [Acts 1:9]
Now the whole world groans [Hebrews 12:26] as it awaits the Messiahs return and He will return to this very place, the Mount of Olives. [Acts 1:11] In the Vision I am being reminded of Zechariah 14 when the Lord will stand on this Mountain once more. I can see the mountain being split in two [Zechariah 4:14] with a mighty roar and trumpet blast [Matthew 24:30-31] and the water will flow from the Temple, [Zechariah 14:8] the river of life will flow and bring life where there was once only death. [Ezekiel 47:8-9]
Wouldn’t it be great to have the privilege to stand and see these things happening as the Lord in all His glory returns to earth and the people bow their knee and sing His praises giving thanks as in Revelation 5:11-13
Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne and the living creatures and the elders; and the number of them was myriads of myriads, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing.” And every created thing, which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all things in them, I heard saying, “To Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever.”
The preparation for our salvation started before time began but our salvation was revealed in all its reality about two thousand years ago just at the bottom of the Mount of Olives. One night long ago in the Garden of Gethsemane Yeshua cried out to God and from there He was arrested and gave a glimpse of His power, as the people could not stand in His presence. [John 18:6] Then after a trial before Pilate, He was nailed to a cross with nails that can never be overcome because they show the love of God. [John 3:16] Nails that held our Saviour tight for the world to see and know that when they drove the spear into His side the people could see He was dead. [John 19:34] He had given His blood, His life, His all, to switch on a light, a light that has shone throughout History ever since and will never be overcome by darkness. [John 1:5]
The sacrifice of Yeshua was, is and will ever be the switch to a new life. [John 8:12] A life we can experience every time we take Communion to remember the sacrifice of Yeshua and in doing so it is like renewing that light to keep it shining in our lives. When we take communion it is like putting in a new bulb into the lamp of life. [Psalm 119:105] We need that light forever shining in our lives to reveal the true path. [Matthew 7:13-14] There are many rules and regulations on when where and how we can take communion, rules never placed there by our Lord. He said, “Take eat do this in remembrance of Me,” [1 Corinthians 11:23-26] and when we do we can experience the glory we will one day see standing on the Mount of Olives.
There are many questions that could be asked of our Lord when He returns but what will it matter? As all the truth of the Word will be standing before us, and all will be revealed in that moment in time. We will look upon the wounds in His hands and feet and see that they are healed, as will be those wounds that we have carried throughout our lives. [Revelation 21:4] The power of the Lord, yes the same power that created the universe, is returning to take up His throne as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. [Revelation 19:16]
The day when our Lord does stand on the Mount of Olives is coming, whether today or in many years, but He is coming. As I look again at this vision I see many scriptures being fulfilled, His return, His Bride, the New Temple and the light of the World in all its glory. [Revelation 21:22-24] There will be no time for questions as the children of God are gathered from the four winds. There is no need for questions because all that has been done in the past will be standing before us and all truth will be revealed to the world at that moment in time. This will not be the end but just the beginning of the promises made to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The promises, revealed through Moses and all the prophets and through the Disciples, will be standing in front of us in all His glory. When will this happen? Only the Father knows, [Matthew 24:36] our job is to be ready for when it does.
In that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which is in front of Jerusalem on the east; and the Mount of Olives will be split in its middle from east to west by a very large valley, so that half of the mountain will move toward the north and the other half toward the south.
