He is all we need.

He is all we need.

This week I received an invitation to attend a film of UFOs and strange events. Am I going? Not at all because the film is about demons and whatever and we don't need this in the church, we have enough already. A few years ago I had to sit through a talk by a Pentecostal Pastor who told us how strong the devil is and the power he has, this person even said God had to ask the devil’s permission before He did anything. The speaker could not have been further from the truth but this is what happens we give this enemy of God so much credit for what happens in our lives.

However there was something this speaker forgot, one thing and that is the cross, the devil may have had power over people such as Adam and Eve. [Genesis 3] But he has no power other than what we give him, because his power was removed at the cross. [Genesis 3:15] He may roam around looking for people to devour. [1 Peter 5:8] But what a lot of people don't know or remember is he has no teeth, he is toothless, yes toothless. With every hammer blow upon every nail that held our Lord to the cross, another tooth was knocked out and by the time the Lord cried out forgive them for they know not what they do, satan’s power had completely vanished. [Hosea 13:14]

Yes there is only one power in this universe and His name is Elohim, the Great I AM [Exodus 3:14] who is the power of the universe, the creator of Heaven and Earth [Genesis 14:19] and the saviour of the World. [1 John 4:14] It is by His power all was made so why would we look in any other direction for a power that does not exist and give that so called power credit for anything. God is in control of all things and at all times [Hebrews 2:8] and if He is not then He is not God.

I hear people say, “the devil made me do it, or the devil.” It is time for us to stand up own to our own mistakes. We are in control of our minds and hearts not the evil one. Any action we take is our responsibility. [Romans 3:23] We take the applause if we win a gold medal then surely we have to admit it is our fault if we make a mistake and not blame our mistakes on others no matter who they are. The evil one may have placed the thought into our mind but the thought is only a thought and to put that thought into action the thought has to go into the heart. This means if we bring the thought under control and don’t allow it into the heart we will not put it into action. [2 Corinthians 10:5]

Yeshua said, “Love the Lord your God with all your mind” [Matthew 22:37] If this is the case then there is no room for any evil thoughts no matter where they may come from. We are to have the mind of the Messiah [1 Corinthians 2:16] and all He thought about was honouring the Father [John 17:4] and loving and healing the people. [Luke 9:6] He never thought of taking revenge, even when the devil tempted Him He turned to the word of God. When the Jewish leaders questioned Him He turned to the Word of God [Luke 6:3] when the people questioned Him He turned to the Word of God. [Malachi 3:8--9] When the people tested Him over the woman caught in adultery, He turned to the Word of God to answer them. [Deuteronomy 17:7] In all cases the Word of God stopped the questions, as the testing of the Word has strength, as it is more powerful than a double-edged sword. [Hebrews 4:12]

The Word of God is greater than any evil that we will ever encounter, the Lord spoke and it was, the Lord breathed His breath into us and there was life. [Genesis 2:7] The demons cried out “what do want with us” and Yeshua sent them into the pigs and they were destroyed. [Matthew 8:29-32] The storm came to destroy Yeshua and the disciples in the boat but Yeshua spoke and the storm stopped. [Luke 8:24] The same power turned water into wine [John 4:46] and fed five thousand men plus all the women and children who may have been there, with five loaves and two fish with plenty left over. [Matthew 14:15-21] There is no power in heaven and earth greater than our Lord God.

The devil wanted to give Yeshua all the cities of the earth, but they were not his to give. The devil wanted Yeshua to turn stone into bread but again the Lord turned to scripture and said we shall not live by bread alone but by every Word of God. [Deuteronomy 8:3] His Word is a lamp to our feet and light to our path as we walk and talk with the Lord in this journey of life. [Psalm 119:105] All other roads are covered with darkness it is only the path that leads to the Lord that glows with the Light of the world that leads to salvation. [John 8:12] Reading His Word, which is the very thoughts of the Lord Himself, puts these words into our minds as a buffer against all else that may try to enter.

We don’t need to turn to Horoscopes or worship statues or any other idol as they may have eyes but cannot see, they have mouths but cannot speak and ears and cannot hear. [Jeremiah 5:21] In other words they are useless. I was once given a beautiful carved statue in appreciation for what I had done for my students. When I accepted Yeshua as my Lord and Saviour, it had to go. The statue had no power but it was what it represented and what it represented had no place in our lives or our home. Who may walk in the house of the Lord? Those who have clean hands and pure hearts. [Psalm 24:3-4]

When we accept Yeshua as Lord and Saviour we start a walk like no other on earth. We start on a journey that has no end. We walk within the power of the One who created the universe, yes as the song says: He is big enough to fill the universe and yet small enough to fit within my heart. So why would we turn to the left or the right for peace and comfort when the greatest comforter is just a small prayer away. [Revelation 22:20] Lord come into my heart today in a new and living way, such a small prayer but one that cries out from the troubles of this world to the One who loves and allowed himself to be nailed to a cross for my sins and the sins of the world. With the Cross-before us why look elsewhere?

Yeshua took our weakness and turned them into strength. He took our anger and turned it into love. He took our hearts and turned them from stone to flesh so we would know and feel His love. [Ezekiel 36:26] He has taken our lives and given them a purpose, a purpose to live and to enjoy His peace and to know there is nothing bigger or greater than the One who saves and nothing greater than His love for us and for the whole world. He is all we need and it is in this need that countless people have cried out, “Save me Lord!” and He has heard their cry and rescued them. So why should we or any one look further than Yeshua for Salvation, knowledge, peace and love for themselves and for those we meet in the streets or our work or our homes. Nothing or no one can bring us the peace that He can give, all we have to do is ask and surrender to His love and salvation.

To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust. Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. 2 Peter 1:1-7
