Search Our Hearts, O Lord
Search Our Hearts, O Lord
Passover is a week closer and now is the time to examine ourselves of how we stand or would stand in the presence of the Lord if it were to happen now. We have only one advocate in heaven who speaks on our behalf, there is no other as there is only one [1 John 2:1] and that is the one who was nailed to the cross, the one who paid the Bride price for our salvation, for our right to become the Bride of Christ. [2 Corinthians 11:2]
There is a black cloud hanging over the earth blinding people to the truth of what Yeshua went through for you and me. As the Lord’s time to return to earth gets ever closer things are getting darker by the day, there will be wars and rumours of wars, famine and storms then look up because your salvation is near. [Luke 21:28] Passover is a time to prepare ourselves for what is to come, as it is not going to get any better before His return, but we can. The acceptance of the Lord into our lives and what He allowed Himself to go through, [John 10:18] is a personal choice but a choice we have to make if we want to be part of the next step, His final Kingdom.
I would suggest there are three stages to the gift of salvation and the first is Passover when salvation was given to us all. There are two more stages when we come to understand what salvation means and finally receive it when we come before the King. However the advantage we have over the Disciples, who hid in fear when the Lord died, [John 20:19] is that we know what happened next. When the Lord died to them that was the end, but now we know there was much more to come and come it did. The resurrection of our Lord and Saviour who was dead then He walked free from the grave, our First Fruits from the grave to show what was possible through Him and Him alone.
The Father’s hand touched the world and the light burst forth forever and this is the Light that we should be preparing to celebrate, the light coming into our lives and to the world through the open grave. [Luke 24:24] We all have sinned and now we have been given a chance to make a fresh start, [Romans 5:7-8] to walk and talk as Yeshua did and act in the way He did. He came and glorified the Father and now we are to glorify the Son in our words and our actions to walk in an unleavened way and away from sin. [1 Corinthians 5:7]
Exodus 20:23 tells us in the Hebrew, that we are to place no other gods upon the one true God. As the Egyptians placed the title of god on to everything from the river to the Pharaoh and everything in between, are we any better today? The gods of the Egyptians brought them nothing but pain and suffering, in the end the same could happen to us if we do not cleanse ourselves from the things we have placed upon the Lord. We too have taken into the church many pagan items that have nothing to do with the Lord and called them holy. These things may be nice and they may be pretty but they are a distraction from the main and only message of the Gospel, the message displayed by Yeshua on the cross and by the empty tomb. [John 3:15-17]
The Israelites left in a hurry because as God knows all things, obviously knew the Pharaoh would change his mind about letting the people go. [Exodus 14:5] The people had to be where the Lord could save them and with the army of Pharaoh behind them and the sea before them, Moses cried out be still and see what the Lord can do. [Exodus 14:13] The waters parted and the people went through the waters that were to take them from slavery to freedom. They were being reborn into a whole new world. A world where God was in control of their lives, where there was a future and a hope. By the blood of the Passover Lamb they had set forth on a new journey, they were led by the Spirit and passed through the waters. Once through they were free to sing and dance and give thanks for their newfound freedom. [Exodus 15]
We too can dance before the Lord with a new freedom in our step once we realise that He is all we need [2 Peter 1:3] and require to be set free from the bondage of this world to be able to enter the next. Why would we ever say He is not enough? why should we ever say I have to add more to understand the message the Lord gave us in His feasts? The message of salvation and directions on how to live under His commands and direction are all in the Word of God, ‘place no other gods on me. [2 Timothy 3:16]
Passover is but the first step on a journey, which starts with His blood and pain and leads on to the next step and the next, finally reaching the wedding of the Lamb and the great celebration before the throne of God. [Revelation 19:9] Nothing in our past or what we have now will get us closer to the Lord except the Lord Himself. We brought nothing into this world and we can take nothing from it. Yeshua told us clearly how we can be saved, “Unless you are born of the water and the Spirit you cannot enter the Kingdom of God.” [John 3:5-8] Yes unless we accept, without question, the Passover Lamb on the doorposts of our hearts, how can we ever be ready for the Holy Spirit to reveal all truth to us at Pentecost? [John 16:13]
It was a bright clear evening when they came for our Lord, some wanted to fight, but He said no. [Mark 14:47] Because what was about to happen was spoken of long ago and it was time. [Matthew 26:24] Yeshua laid down His life for His friends, willingly and went like a lamb to the slaughter. [Isaiah 53:7] He was taken before the High Priest and examined, as was the Passover Lamb. Our High Priest stood before the people [Hebrews 10:12] and when He told them clearly whom He was, the High Priest tore his clothes. [Mark 14:63] This act showed He had no right to question the Messiah, as he would have died for such an act if he were the true high priest but that is another message. All this was of course to fulfill scripture. [Luke 24:25]
The Jewish people search their homes for any leaven bread in a ceremony called bedikat chametz, checking for leaven, before Passover. The home is searched from top to bottom which ends with a search with a candle. The Light of the world will light up the darkness in our lives so out of the gloom of this world we can see the promise of the cross more clearly. Should not the cry, “Search me and know my heart O Lord,” [Psalm 139:23] should this not be our cry at this time? The Lord has done His part it is now time to do our part and that is to follow the Lord with all our heart, mind and spirit, is it not better to search upon our souls before the return of the Lord than after?
Out of the depths I have cried to You, O LORD. Lord, hear my voice! Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications. If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with You, that You may be feared. I wait for the LORD, my soul does wait, and in His word do I hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than the watchmen for the morning; Indeed, more than the watchmen for the morning. O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the LORD there is lovingkindness, and with Him is abundant redemption. Psalm 130:1-7
