50 Days after the resurrection came the Holy Spirit. We must ready ourselves for this event once more. We can do this by reading scriptures each day in preparation for the Power from on High.

49 plus one Day comes Pentecost

Counting the Days

Passover and our salvation has been given, it is now time to prepare for the coming of the Power from on High.

Gifts of the spirit – Do we need them?

There is a great weakness in the Church of Christ because of a great ignorance concerning the Holy Spirit and the gifts He has come to bring. God wants us to be powerful in every way because of the revelation of the knowledge of His will concerning the power and manifestation of His Spirit. He desires us to be continually hungry to receive more and more of His Spirit. No man can call Jesus is Lord but by the Holy Spirit. [1 Corinthians 12:3] When the Holy Spirit comes in, Jesus is Lord. Then His Words flood our souls, the tide flows out to the needy, and the vision increases. Then I am hungrier than ever, nothing satisfies me but God. It is the life of God in the nature that stretches out to believe and to receive. We can thus be drawn in to the Spirit of God, and you know you are in what will never pass away.  -  Smith Wigglesworth

Gifts of the spirit – Have we ever asked for them?

The Holy Spirit distributes the gifts of the spirit as he sees fit. God does not want us to be ignorant of how He wants us to serve him. However, it is very easy for us to get caught up in what spiritual gift(s) we have and then only serve God in that area of ministry. That is not how it works. God calls us to obediently serve Him. He will equip us with whatever gifts of the spirit we need to accomplish the task or tasks he has called us to. Yes, God calls some to be teachers and gives them the gift of teaching, but that does not excuse the person from serving God in other ways as well. Is it beneficial to know what spiritual gift(s) God has given you? Of course, it is. However what we need to focus on is serving God. If we seek God's will and obey his leading, He will always equip us with whatever gifts of the Spirit we need when we need them.

Gifts of the Spirit - what are the gifts used for?

Scripture indicates that the gifts of the spirit are equally valid, but not equally valuable. Their value is determined by their worth to the Church. In dealing with this matter, Paul used the analogy of the human body. All members of the body have functions, Paul declared, but some are more important than others (1 Corinthians 12:12-26). The service of each Christian should be in proportion to the gifts, which they possess (1 Corinthians 12-14). All believers, as members of the body of Messiah, must be serving together in order for the body to be fully functional. That is why a Church needs Pastors, Teachers, Helpers, Servants, Administrators, those with great faith, etc. All of the gifts of the Holy Spirit working together are needed to produce the full potential of the church. Since the gifts of the Spirit are gifts of grace, their use must be controlled by the rule of love - the greatest of all the gifts of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 13).

The Holy Spirit is:

He is our very life –              Genesis 2:7 - Breathed life into the man.

He is like a dove –                Luke 3:22 -   The Holy spirit descended like a Dove.

He is like a covering –         Luke 24:49 - The Holy Spirit will settle upon you.

He is like living water – John 7:38 - From his heart will flow rivers of living water.

He is like a comforter –        John 16:7 -    The Comforter will come to you.

He is our Teacher –               John 14:26 -   He will teach you all things.

He is the Power from high - Acts 1:8   Receive the power through the Holy Spirit.

He is like wind –        Acts 2:2 –     There came a sound of a mighty rushing wind.

He is like a fire –       Acts 2:3 –     Tongues of fire settled on them

He is in our hearts –  2 Corinthians 1:22 – Given the Spirit in our hearts.

He is like a pledge –  2 Corinthians 5:5 – He has given us the pledge of the Spirit.
